Oh, um, Neal Katyal, "Counsel, Legal and Illegal," part book review of Jack Goldsmith's The Terror Presidency, part essay, which I responded to at length on my blog really was quite good. There was also something summarizing theories of whether we (humans, mammals, insects, etc.) are genetically programmed to be altruistic or self-interested, and summarizing the history of the field since Darwin, I thought was quite interesting.

Generically, I find the book reviews of The New Republic often to be the most interesting essays I read--do those count in your book?
Happy Thanksgiving!
Specific gems plz?
