(It always shocked me how much in taxes I owed in graduate school. Of course, unlike my fellow students, I reported my actual income, including fellowships. That may have been my mistake.)

i got $200 back from america.
It would seem more reasonable to complain about the time lost preparing your taxes as a PhD student.
